Awareness of Disability Course
Who will benbefit?
Anyone who:
- Works directly with the public
- Wants to promote products or services to people with disabilities
- Works directly or indirectly with people with disability
- Wants or needs to understand the framework of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 amended 2005
- Works in the Advice and Guidance Sector and may involve giving information to people with a disability
Objectives:
- Understand that disability is much more than focussing on physical, sensory and learning disabilities
- Develop an understanding of the difficulties people with disabilities face every day and the reasons for them
- Define what disability means under the law
- Understand the purpose of the DDA 2005 and their obligations to people with disabilities
- Identify barriers and solutions to inclusion of people with disabilities
- Gain effective communication skills and understand disability etiquette

Programme syllabus
The programme is a half day, comprising of 5 sessions with practical exercises, group discussions and video clips.
Session 1: How do we define disability?
Session 2: Understanding the Disability Acronyms and Glossary
Session 3: The Disability Discrimination Act
Session 4: Experiencing disability
Session 5: Equality and Diversity
£75 per head, max booking - 10 people.
